- It is inevitable and acceptable that AI will be used to assist with the composition and grammar of any letter of recommendation or internship support. However, it is requested that when a personal attribute, characteristic, or quality is assigned to a student that it is backed-up with one or more specific events, situations, actions, decisions, and/or judgments that demonstrate the attribute, characteristic, or quality. Without such evidence, it is impossible to differentiate the students during application review because all AI-assisted letters of recommendation have strong positive wording. It is common to say that a student has strong leadership skills. We are looking for one or more examples where those strong leadership skills are demonstrated. For example: Sara was the captain of her Salem high school varsity volleyball team, and she demonstrated strong leadership skills when she helped Coach Jacob organize all the logistics for all the varsity away games and in one match against rival Bird City High School provided exemplary skills for motivation, by 1) getting all the players to the bus on time, 2) getting lights out established on game nights, 3) providing additional motivational words to the team between games, and 4) during a difficult stretch in the away game against Bird City High after losing 7 straight points, she called a timeout and got the team resettled, they went on to win the game 15-13, and because of this they won the match 2 games to 1.These types of vignettes are much more powerful evidence of a person’s capabilities, and will weigh more in our evaluations, rather that just being presented with a routine list of accolades generated by an AI prompt.
